Description(s):Abstract: Root systems are crucial components in vegetation that link the soil and the atmosphere. In recent years, minirhizotrons have attracted increasing interest in root studies at both lab-scale and field-scale experiments. Minirhizotrons are able to observe the appearance, growth, decay, doom and vanishing of the same fine root continuously. In this study, minirhizotrons and some soil sensors are used to investigate the vertical root distribution and the relation between soil moisture, root growth and root water uptake. This will improve the understanding the adaptability of crops to different soil water status and soil properties.
