Titles:Main Title: Derivation and analysis of spatial soil moisture patterns from SAR-data
Subtitle: 2nd semi-annual report for IRTG
Description:Abstract: Knowledge of spatial soil moisture patterns and their variability over scale and time is of huge importance, as they influence soil-vegetation-atmosphere exchange processes to a high degree. In order to observe such patterns, soil moisture data derived from radar remote sensing products are suited well, as they offer high spatial resolution as well as broad coverage. A collection of soil moisture maps from 1992 onwards, a so called soil moisture climatology, will be created and analysed within in the described PhD-project.Therefore a simple soil moisture index derived from statistical analysis will be developed from existing, processed datasets. For upcoming Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)- missions, more sophisticated inversion schemes will be developed, using principles of polarimetric decomposition and field measurements.
