| Description: | Abstract: This lecture discusses the toolkit of a vadose zone hydrologist for investigating unsaturated flow. We will briefly discuss the measurement principle of tensiometers and common soil water content sensors. The limitations of these local scale measurements will be discussed, and the need for alternative measurement strategies will be made clear. Next, remote sensing, wireless sensor networks, cosmic ray neutron probes and hydrogeophysical measurements will be briefly introduced and the potential and drawbacks to investigate unsaturated water flow will be discussed. |
