Description(s):Abstract: The importance of soil moisture measurements on field scale was emphasized by recent publications (Vereecken et al., 2008). High spatial and temporal variability of soil moisture make soil moisture measurements a highly challenging research field. Recently cosmic ray probes have been proposed as an alternative for collecting soil moisture information at intermediate scale (Zreda et al., 2008). They could work as tool to overcome the existing gap between point measurements and remote sensing data. Soil moisture estimations at intermediate scale are key input variables for hydrological models, land surface and climate models.
