| Description: | Abstract: NRW has a huge variety of Natural Regions across its area of nearly 34 100 km². Also the height above sea level varies from 9 m (Wylermeer, Niederrheinisches Tiefland) to 843 mm (Langenberg, Rothaargebirge). Due to this, several geomorphological differentiations exist, thus the federal state is divided into the following ten major geographic regions (Großlandschaften): Dümmer Geestniederung u. Ems-Hunte Geest, Weser- Aller-Flachland, Münsterländische Tieflandsbucht, Niederrheinisches Tiefland u. Kölner bucht, Weser- u. Weser-Leine-Bergland, Bergisches Land u. Sauerland, Westerwald, Mittelrheingebiet, Eifel and Westhessisches Bergland. Further these regions are divided into 74 Natural Regions, which are displayed in this map document. The data is gratuitous available on the homepage of the Landesamt für Natur, Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz NRW. |
