| Description: | Abstract: In order to ensure the public water supply, several water protection areas were defined. For NRW the majority of the drinking water comes from subterrestrial sources; thus they are protected by water protection areas. Water that comes from reservoirs is protected by reservoir protection areas. The map series ‘water protection areas’ including ‘drinking water protection areas’ is edited by the LANUV Environmental Agency of North Rhine-Westphalia) and equalized with the ground water database. The scale of the map is 1:50 000 because the boundaries of the water protection areas were adapted to the TK50 (Topographic Map 1:50 000). Hence only the TK50 should be used as a topographic background in order to avoid inaccuracies concerning the position of boundaries. |
