Title(s):Main Title: First semi-annual report for IRTG D8: Parallel simulation of variably saturated flow with adaptive mesh refinement
Description(s):Abstract: In this report we summarize the progress made during the first semester of work on project D8 of SFB/TR32. One main goal of this project is to enable parallel adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) in ParFlow by coupling it with the parallel AMR library p4est. We have completed the first step of the coupling, such that ParFlow can optionally be compiled with p4est. Additionally, we have started with the necessary modifications to transfer the management of ParFlow’s computational grid to p4est. The approach in which ParFlow distributes its grid on a parallel machine is substantially different from the methodology used in p4est. Hence, we are currently studying how exactly it will be possible to wrap one from another.
