| Descriptions: | Abstract: The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) is well aware of the importance of systematic and integrated data management in research funding. At first the DFG, its aims and expenditure, will be introduced. It then will be explained why scientific infrastructure is funded by the DFG and how this is performed with the funding of specific information infrastructure through the Department of Scientific Library Services & Information Systems. The third part is dedicated to data management in coordinated programmes. Service projects for information infrastructure enable researchers in Collaborative Research Centres to build effective and powerful tools for management of own research data and for virtual research areas, examples are cited. The paper does not deal with legal, psychological, and technical restrictions in data management. Finally, further perspectives for data management in the DFG programme Collaborative Research Centres are presented.
